{"id":475,"date":"2008-08-05T06:06:25","date_gmt":"2008-08-05T06:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/astraea.net\/blog\/?p=475"},"modified":"2008-08-05T06:06:25","modified_gmt":"2008-08-05T06:06:25","slug":"primate-extinction-threat-growing-fast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.astraea.net\/blog\/primate-extinction-threat-growing-fast\/","title":{"rendered":"Primate extinction threat growing fast."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first comprehensive review in five years of the world\u2019s 634 kinds of primates found that almost 50% are in danger of going extinct, according to the criteria of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/\">IUCN Red List of Threatened Species<\/a>.\u00a0 Humanity\u2019s closest relatives, the world\u2019s monkeys, apes and other primates, are disappearing from the face of the Earth, with some literally being eaten into extinction.<\/p>\n<p>Issued at the 22nd International Primatological Society Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland, the report by the world\u2019s foremost primate authorities presented a chilling indictment on the state of primates everywhere.
