{"id":429,"date":"2008-07-03T15:33:41","date_gmt":"2008-07-03T15:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/astraea.net\/blog\/?p=429"},"modified":"2008-07-03T15:33:41","modified_gmt":"2008-07-03T15:33:41","slug":"world-values-survey-shows-were-getting-happier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.astraea.net\/blog\/world-values-survey-shows-were-getting-happier\/","title":{"rendered":"World Values Survey shows we&#8217;re getting happier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The recent publication of this year&#8217;s World Values survey shows that <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/in_depth\/7487143.stm\">the world is getting happier<\/a>.\u00a0 The survey is simple, but revealing and you can download much data here.<\/p>\n<p>Two aspects are particularly interesting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>I<\/span><span>n general <\/span><span>the <a href=\"http:\/\/margaux.grandvinum.se\/SebTest\/wvs\/articles\/folder_published\/article_base_83\">Human Development trend points towards stronger secular-rational values and stronger self-expression values<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a <a href=\"http:\/\/margaux.grandvinum.se\/SebTest\/wvs\/articles\/folder_published\/article_base_56\">diminishing marginal return to having more money<\/a> &#8211; in other words, wealth is important for survival (you need a minimum of food, shelter, etc) but is not so important for happiness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.astraea.net\/holonics\/magazine\/images\/2008\/wellbeing_gnp.gif?w=940\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I particularly like the second finding (which is not that new, but increasingly proven) because the chart (above) looks like the financier&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Efficient_frontier#the_efficient_frontier\">efficient frontier<\/a> in which it is OK to take a bit of risk to obtain a higher return, but there soon comes a point after which more risk does not result in a higher expected return.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The recent publication of this year&#8217;s World Values survey shows that the world is getting happier.\u00a0 The survey is simple, but revealing and you can download much data here.
