{"id":2301,"date":"2014-07-18T10:35:47","date_gmt":"2014-07-18T10:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/astraea.net\/blog\/?p=2301"},"modified":"2014-08-19T10:48:23","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T10:48:23","slug":"even-big-brother-thinks-big-brother-can-be-dangerous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.astraea.net\/blog\/even-big-brother-thinks-big-brother-can-be-dangerous\/","title":{"rendered":"Even big brother thinks big brother can be dangerous."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UN has warned against the dangers of too much data and too much surveillance.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/HRBodies\/HRC\/RegularSessions\/Session27\/Documents\/A.HRC.27.37_en.pdf\">In a report<\/a>, the UN body said more needed to be done to ensure that surveillance was balanced against its harm to personal privacy, noting that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mass retention of data to aid surveillance was &#8220;neither necessary nor proportionate&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"width: 512px;\">&#8220;disturbingly little&#8221;
