{"id":18,"date":"2007-09-20T10:46:19","date_gmt":"2007-09-20T10:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/astraea.net\/blog\/?p=18"},"modified":"2007-09-20T10:46:19","modified_gmt":"2007-09-20T10:46:19","slug":"us-executive-tends-to-secularism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.astraea.net\/blog\/us-executive-tends-to-secularism\/","title":{"rendered":"US executive tends to secularism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Religion can be a useful guide to morality, but history has shown that it should be separate from politics.\u00a0 This is more so today than ever before because there is such diversity of belief and there is no majority view, even on a nominal basis, let alone a practising one.<\/p>\n<p>The current US president has evangelised his\u00a0 own beliefs throughout the administration, even requiring official schedules to include prayer meetings.\u00a0 While spiritual engagement should be applauded, and is grossly neglected by most of us, it has been inappropriate to evangelise in a position supposed to represent ALL the people of a nation.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that this will subside with the next administration.\u00a0 Of the front runners in the Republican party, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.ie\/world-news\/north-america\/republicans-take-gamble-on-god-void-candidates-1081445.html\">none are expected to take their own religion on the campaign trail<\/a> to the extent that Bush did.\u00a0 This will be good for America.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Religion can be a useful guide to morality, but history has shown that it should be separate from politics.\u00a0 This is more so today than ever before because there is such diversity of belief and there is no majority view, even on a nominal basis, let alone a practising one.
