It is interesting to see that biodiesel is in the range of mineral oil (80%) though bioethanol is only half as energy dense.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 t <a title=\"Diesel fuel\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diesel_fuel\">diesel<\/a> = 1.01 toe<\/li>\n<li>1 m<sup>3<\/sup> diesel = 0.98 toe<\/li>\n<li>1 t petrol = 1.05 toe<\/li>\n<li>1 m<sup>3<\/sup> petrol = 0.86 toe<\/li>\n<li>1 t <a title=\"Biodiesel\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Biodiesel\">biodiesel<\/a> = 0.86 toe<\/li>\n<li>1 m<sup>3<\/sup> biodiesel = 0.78 toe<\/li>\n<li>1 t <a title=\"Bioethanol\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bioethanol\">bioethanol<\/a> = 0.64 toe<\/li>\n<li>1m<sup>3<\/sup> bioethanol = 0.51 toe<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tonne_of_oil_equivalent#cite_note-2\">[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n<li>1 MWh = 0.086 toe <sup id=\"cite_ref-3\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tonne_of_oil_equivalent#cite_note-3\">[4]<\/a><\/sup> (therefore 1 toe = 11630.0 KWh) <sup id=\"cite_ref-4\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tonne_of_oil_equivalent#cite_note-4\">[5]<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So you could guesstimate your TOE.\u00a0 Say fill up the tank 3 times (150 litres), plus heating, plus food, &#8230; maybe half a tonne to a tonne a week?\u00a0 It&#8217;s a big number.<\/p>\n<p>So moving to solar, wind, hyrdo, bio is helpful, and reducing consumption is necessary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A useful benchmark for consumption is Tonnes of Oil Equivalent.
