Forests are being raped and pillaged.\u00a0 Every second one hectare of forest is felled.\u00a0 They do not regenerate because the soil and microclimate are damaged.\u00a0 Instead weeds prosper.<\/p>\n

We allow it.\u00a0 Governments benefit from it through logging rights.\u00a0 Politicians and police benefit from kickbacks.\u00a0 We benefit from cheap wood.<\/p>\n

But nature is a closed system and we will pay for our carelessness as the productive capacity of this planet is degraded.\u00a0 The debt will be collected sooner than we would like to believe.<\/p>\n

We could change our priorities.\u00a0 We could stop wasting money on military buildup, subsidising the fossil fuel industry and food production in rich countries.\u00a0 Will we?\u00a0 Will you?<\/p>\n
