{"id":1576,"date":"2012-03-13T13:51:44","date_gmt":"2012-03-13T13:51:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/astraea.net\/blog\/?p=1576"},"modified":"2012-03-13T14:01:44","modified_gmt":"2012-03-13T14:01:44","slug":"scroogled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.astraea.net\/blog\/scroogled\/","title":{"rendered":"Scroogled!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.astraea.net\/holonics\/magazine\/images\/2012\/scrooge3-300x128.gif?resize=300%2C128\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"128\" align=\"right\" \/>Very sad to see that Scroogle.org has been brought down.\u00a0 The little &#8220;Don&#8217;t Be Evil&#8221; graphic wouldn&#8217;t load on our home page so we investigated.<\/p>\n<p>I loved Google back in 1998.\u00a0 Its colours were cool and it worked.\u00a0 But then I found out that they are not straight and have many conflicts of interest at board level.\u00a0 So I stopped using it completely.\u00a0 Yahoo, among others, is straighter (and safer).<\/p>\n<p>Scroogle.org was straight and tried to shine a light.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a shame to see another one bite the dust.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scroogle\">Scroogle<\/a> on Wikipedia<\/p>\n<p>We found <a href=\"http:\/\/searchengineland.com\/scroogle-org-is-gone-forever-says-site-owner-112245\">\u201cScroogle.org Is Gone Forever\u201d Says Site Owner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Brandt told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.betabeat.com\/2012\/02\/21\/scroogle-privacy-first-search-engine-shuts-down-for-good\/\">BetaBeat.com<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Scroogle.org is gone forever. Even if all my DDoS problems had never started in December, Scroogle was already getting squeezed from Google\u2019s throttling, and was already dying. It might have lasted another six months if I hadn\u2019t lost seven servers from DDoS, but that\u2019s about all. I no longer have any domains online.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I also took all my domains out of DNS because I want to signal to the criminal element that I have no more servers to trash.
